To measure the level of solids in hazardous areas, we recommend you to use ATEX certified tilt level switches. It is indeed an obligation of the European Directive 94/9/EC. All the level measurement equipments that are located in hazardous environments must be ATEX Certified. It is due to the nature of the contained solid. Indeed, the dust emitted by certain products can create explosive dust clouds. But be keep in mind that even if you store nothing that could be dangerous, it could become a hazardous environment if it is located closed to explosive areas (because of gas, vapors, combustible dusts). It is the customer’s sole responsibility to dertermine if the area is hazardous. Here are some examples of ATEX hazardous environments: explosive dust clouds and flammable gas, vapors or liquid mists.
